Lilies on the Land

UK Tour - 30 August - 29 October

We are seeking deaf and hard of hearing actors who use/know BSL, and hearing actors who are fluent in BSL for our upcoming UK tour of 'Lilies on the Land'.

Show info

Originally devised and performed by the Lions part, this beautiful play tells the stories of four very different women and their experiences in the Land Army during the war. It uses the real-life stories and first-hand accounts of over 150 women who left their homes and families to work on farms all over the country.

We are delighted to have received public funding from the Arts Council to make this production bilingual in British Sign Language and spoken English. Every performance will also be creatively captioned.

The show will be co-directed by Amy Astley and a deaf co-director.

Casting

We are seeking deaf and hard of hearing actors who use/know BSL, and hearing actors who are fluent in BSL and willing to sing, for four roles. Each actor will play one lead female character, and multiple other characters.

Character breakdown

MARGIE - from Newcastle. Naive and childlike, though not childish.

PEGGY - a cockney from a large East End family. Not afraid to roll her sleeves up and get stuck in!

POPPY - from a privileged family in Oxfordshire, enthusiastic and confident.

VERA - a thoughtful, strong, feminist, though never quite fitting in anywhere.

There are no set communication methods for the roles, this is all to be discovered in rehearsals! We are open to receiving applications from anyone who feels they are suited to the roles.

In the first instance, please contact Amy at the email below to express interest, and send your CV. Deadline for submissions is 28th July 2022 at 5pm.
